This section
lists up cautions for connecting cables and KNS
environment.
PC:
- Windows®2000 (SP3 or later version)/XP (SP1 or
later version) or higher OS is required to use voice communication.
Windows®98 or higher OS is required when you do not use voice
communication.
- Following are specifications (CPU, etc.)
recommended by OS.
- Processor
Higher CPU than the recommended CPU
in the OS (we recommend you to use Pentium®II or higher
processor).
- System Memory (RAM)
Larger system memory than
the recommended system memory in the OS
- Free hard disk spaces
At least 8MB free hard
disk spaces (Free space for storing logs may be required when
storing the logs in the ARHP.)
- Sound Blaster 16 or higher sound card is required
for using the KNS.
- NIC is required for using the KNS. (We recommend
the user to use the network interface card compliant with 100
Base.)
- One free serial port is required. (The user can use
USB connection when there is no serial port. However, USB connection is
not supported by KENWOOD.)
Network:
- The network environment with a router is not
supported by KENWOOD.
(The user must configure a router with its
ownself-responsibility since certain routers can be operated in a
network environment, but other routers may not work in the same
environment.)
- The user may not be able to transmit command and
voice depending on the setting of ISP. In this case, he/she must inquire
his/her ISP.
- The user must be familiar with network and OS. (It
is desirable for a user to establish the LAN by himself/herself.)
- Firewall software is not supported by KENWOOD. (The
user must configure it with its own self-responsibility.)
- We recommend the user to have the environment in
which a modem is directly connected to a PC. (It is not a must.)
- High-speed line, such as broadband, is required for
a remote PC and the host PC.
(We recommend a user to use the
broadband.)
- A global IP is required for a remote PC and the
host PC for using the KNS through Internet.
General requirements:
- The user must apply for the licence.
(Japan)
- The user must set the host PC where he/she can
handle a problem within 3 hours when a problem occurs. (The Japanese
regulations)
- The KNS is not suited for an operation requiring
quick response since delay occurs in voice communication and operation
performed via the KNS. (contest,etc.)
- Digital communications (PSK31, SSTV, etc.) are not
suited since the sound quality may differ from the sound quality of
common communications equipment since it is transmitted through OS and
network.
